Interesting facts about the Classik Hotel Hackescher Markt
Consistently personal – always unique
As its name suggests, our boutique hotel, located at Große Präsidentenstraße 8, is immediately adjacent to Hackescher Markt. The square is home to a colourful, bustling market that offers crafts, fashion and culinary highlights every Thursday and Saturday. It is hard to believe that the area was once a swamp.
Around 1750, Berlin’s commandant, Graf Hans Christoph Friedrich von Hacke, had the square built on the orders of Frederick II. The locals soon named the marketplace after him, but it was not officially called Hackescher Markt until 23 July 1840.
The square itself, the attractive arches below its local rail station and the surrounding streets are home to countless bars, restaurants and cafés.
